Dive bars…

Some will say they’re dingy and grungy. Others will say they’re comfy and spirited.

Us? We love to love them. Perfect for a no-frills night out when you want to go somewhere with character, a good local dive bar is hard to beat. The people watching is always prime and the drinks ever-flowing.

But, dive bars are kind of like an endangered species these days so you must treasure the ones you find. Luckily, we've scouted the island for the most worthy dives that you need to know about. Read on for our favorite dive bars in LBI.

Port Hole Cafe

Port Hole Cafe is a local watering hole in Ship Bottom. It is open year round and offers a low key casual bar atmosphere. It also comes complete with a pool table and plenty of TVs to watch sports. While you're there, chow down on some pub grub like its famous roast beef sandwich. Make sure to bring cash so you can keep the drinks flowing.

Hudson House

Hudson House is an adult playground in Beach Haven. No frills, just good times. The beers are cheap, there are "beer olympic" type games and a vintage jukebox to get your groove on. It is almost always open and the perfect casual hang with friends. Head on over for a local weekend experience.

Bird and Betty's

Bird and Betty's is technically one of the oldest taverns on LBI, though it has changed names and owners over the years. This new iteration is more refined so not technically a dive, but the decor and vibe that’s reminiscent of 1970’s youth culture makes it feel like your cozy local dive. On weekends, you can expect live music in your favorite throwback Beach Haven night spot. We recommend trying the house special, a Shipwreck, which is a frozen rum drink that’ll transport you right to that beach chair. Don't miss their happy hour from 3-6 PM!
