Bagels, pork rolls, and pizza are surely NJ's finest, but sometimes you need to balance it out. We can’t live on carbs, people! That doesn't, however, mean healthy eating has to be boring. Trust us when we say we’ve identified a few gems on the island and mainland that will expand your horizons beyond a garden salad. When your vegetarian or vegan friend comes to visit, you will be happy you did! Here are the best healthy restaurants on Long Beach Island.

Living on the Veg

Living on the Veg is an island favorite that serves vegan-friendly fare. The cafe offers breakfast and lunch options as well as a smoothie bar and fresh juices to quench your thirst on a hot day. They have redefined fan favorites like nachos with vegan cheese sauce and a tu-no melt, and classics like avocado toast, black bean burgers and salads. Check out their Manahawkin location, open year-round!

Wally's

Family-owned and operated for more than 50 years, Wally's is a Surf City institution. The restaurant recently expanded and now offers extra seating and way more outdoor space; there's even a backyard! The design reflects that of an upscale bistro and the menu follows suit, serving hot takes on the classic burger and quesadilla, as well as heartier entrees like scampi and scallops. There are loads of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options so don't miss it for breakfast, brunch or dinner!
